I remember a time when I completely ignored the inner witness.
I was praying, reading the Bible, and attending church, but when it came to applying what I learned, I struggled. I often felt a quiet nudge in my spirit warning me about decisions I was making, but I ignored it. Instead, I followed my own reasoning, made choices based on emotions, and faced painful consequences.
One specific time I felt uneasy about a business opportunity. Everything looked good on paper, but deep inside something felt off. I brushed it aside, convincing myself I was overthinking. As time went on, everything collapsed. The deal turned out to be full of hidden issues. I lost money, time, and peace—all because I did not listen to that still small voice.
After failing repeatedly, something shifted. I started truly seeking God’s wisdom, slowing down, and paying attention to my inner man. When I finally did, everything changed. I experienced more clarity, fewer regrets, and a deeper relationship with God.
The truth is, learning to listen to the Holy Spirit inside you will change your life. This principle applies to every area:
The Word of God is the best place to start. Learning to follow biblical principles and spiritual laws will help you govern your life wisely.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
The first step in spiritual development is learning to love God, yourself, and people. Many struggle with hearing the inner witness because their hearts are cluttered with resentment, fear, and self-doubt.
“If someone says, ‘I love God’ but hates a brother or sister, that person is a liar. For if we do not love people we can see, how can we love God whom we cannot see?” — 1 John 4:20
You cannot hear God’s voice clearly if your heart is clouded with bitterness and unforgiveness. Love must be the foundation of everything you build.
Many believers struggle because they do not take time to meditate on God’s Word. Prayer is talking to God, but meditation is creating space for God to speak back to you.
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season.” — Psalm 1:2-3
When I started meditating, everything began to change. I confronted negative thoughts that were keeping me bound. I realized that many of my patterns, fears, and reactions were a result of not aligning my mind with God’s truth.
One of the hardest tests in life is having the humility to admit when you are wrong. Many people never pass this test because they blame others instead of correcting themselves.
“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.” — Proverbs 25:28
For years, I was strong in prayer and faith, but I was failing in business, relationships, and decision-making. I had to ask myself hard questions:
If you refuse to judge yourself, life will judge you. The biggest trap is blaming others for the consequences of your own choices.
The thoughts and emotions you dwell on will manifest into real-life results. If you constantly focus on pain, lack, and frustration, you will continue to attract negative situations into your life.
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” — Proverbs 23:7
A person who believes they are unworthy will always attract people who mistreat them. A person who believes in God’s promises will see His goodness manifest in their life.
To break free you must:
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23
The greatest trap in life is to stay the same while blaming others for your circumstances. Eagles fly at high altitudes because they were designed for it, but if you never train your mind, you will remain grounded like a chicken instead of soaring like an eagle.
You are what you think about. Learn to meditate, listen, and align with God’s wisdom.
Be encouraged—it is a learning process for us all.
