Anxiety is real — and it’s not always dramatic.
Sometimes it’s the silent mental spiral:
If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not less spiritual — you’re human.
And the good news is: God doesn’t shame anxious people. He meets them.
Let’s explore two powerful moments in Scripture where anxiety was real — and so was God’s response.
Text: 1 Kings 19:1–18
Elijah had just experienced a massive spiritual victory on Mount Carmel. Fire fell from heaven. The false prophets were silenced. God’s power was undeniable.
But the moment Jezebel threatened him, fear kicked in.
“Elijah was afraid and ran for his life… He came to a broom bush, sat under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life…’”
1 Kings 19:3–4
This was a full-blown anxiety crash:
He isolated himself, spiraled mentally, and even wanted to die. Sound familiar?
Not rebuke. Not a lecture. Not guilt.
“Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat.’”
1 Kings 19:5
God let him rest, then sent nourishment.
Later, He whispered to Elijah in a still small voice, not in the earthquake or fire.
God knows your limits.
He sees your exhaustion.
And sometimes, before He speaks to your spirit,
He takes care of your body.
👉 Anxiety often needs rest before it needs a revelation.
Text: Luke 10:38–42
Martha was doing everything right — cooking, preparing, serving.
But internally, she was unraveling.
Her sister Mary was sitting at Jesus’ feet, while Martha was pacing and pressured.
“But Martha was distracted by all the preparations… She came to Him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’”
Luke 10:40
This wasn’t just a moment of frustration — it was a glimpse into anxiety hiding behind performance and productivity.
He didn’t shame her.
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed — or indeed only one.”
Luke 10:41–42
Jesus gently revealed the real issue:
Martha wasn’t just overworking.
She was overwhelmed.
Anxiety doesn’t always feel like fear — sometimes it feels like never doing enough.
But Jesus calls us back to presence, not performance.
👉 When anxiety says, “Do more,” Jesus says, “Be with Me.”
God is not surprised by your anxiety.
He’s not disappointed in your weariness.
He’s not absent in your overthinking.
He’s near.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7
“Do not be anxious about anything… but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6
🧘♂️ Breathe. Pray. Rest.
God doesn’t expect you to have it all together.
He just wants you to bring it all to Him.
